This piece is an illustration on paper of Madonna. It was a project I undertook to prove to myself that I could get all the nuances in graphite that you can get in oil or watercolor. The simplicity of the graphite on paper is a bit of a juxtaposition to Madonna’s persona for the public because her public figure is very bold and punky. I believe this is just an image she wears for her public, but inside she is intelligent, calm and focused with an excellent heart with compassion for others. So knowing that now, I believe you can say this is an ‘inner portrait’ of Madonna from my perspective. Who knows if she would agree.
