This piece was my first Van Gogh inspired painting. For those who know his work you’ll recognize the style, but with a twist of my own. I had fun painting this composition that was a scene outside Tucson in Arizona. I liked the way the rock mirrored the sky and hills in the distance, and the tree was reaching up to the clouds as if wanting to fly itself. I painted the clouds in that pattern to create a tension where the tree, clouds and mountains meet, and then the smaller plant draws the eye to the cool rock. The fence helps to bring the eye back up and around again. This was a small 12 x 14 on canvas and is sold.
